Sleep Medicine Consult

Eligibility Criteria

Our clinic serves patients aged 16 and over only.
- For patients under age 16, please refer to BC Children’s Hospital Sleep Clinic
We accept referrals from all of BC and the Yukon for patients with complex sleep disorders requiring psychiatric or neurologic assessment and treatment.
We accept patients from the Vancouver Coastal Health region requiring sleep apnea assessment and treatment.

Referral Instructions

For a consultation with a sleep medicine physician, a referral by a physician, nurse practitioner, or specialist is with a valid MSP number required. The referrer needs to complete a Sleep Disorder Consultation Referral Request referral form.

Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT)

Eligibility Criteria

For patients requiring a home sleep apnea test only (without a sleep medicine consult). The patient needs to be able to come to UBC Hospital to pick up and return the HSAT.

Referral Instructions

For patients requiring a home sleep apnea test only (without a sleep medicine consult), complete a Requisition for Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) and Referral Request (Without Sleep Disorder Consultation).

Referrals can only be made by a health care professional. All referrals must be made by a physician, nurse practitioner, or specialist with a valid MSP number. If you are a patient, talk with your primary care provider for a referral to the program.

Triaging and Review

These forms will be reviewed by both our CPAP coordinator and our triaging physicians on a daily basis:

To identify patients requiring urgent assistance
To fast-track high probability obstructive sleep apnea patients for home studies.
To ensure patients are assigned to the correct specialist (respirology, psychiatry, or neurology)

Getting an Appointment

Appointments will be booked following our triage process. The patient, and referring physician or primary care provider will be notified of the appointment date and time.
